Primary Function

Under the supervision of the Director, the Assistant Director plays an instrumental role in growing the Sewanee Fund. They assist in the administration and implementation of Sewanee Fund programs, while also developing, overseeing, and evaluating assigned areas of the Sewanee Fund.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities

1. The Assistant Director recruits, trains, and manages a portfolio of 200 plus alumni volunteers. They are expected to build relationships with their class chairs and volunteers by keeping an open line of communication.
2. This position is responsible for successfully managing four reunion classes each year by implementing strategies that yield increased giving and alumni participation within those specific reunion classes.
3. The Assistant Director is also responsible for managing 15 non-reunion classes throughout the year.
4. They assist in carrying out the overall strategy for the Sewanee Fund ensuring a successful and impactful fundraising year for the University
5. The Assistant Director works closely with Marketing and Communications brainstorming ideas, and seeing projects through to completion.
6. The Sewanee Fund website is maintained by the Assistant Director.
7. They may be asked to assist the Director in the monitoring of the department budget and prepare budget data for review/approval by supervisor/ department head.
8. End-of-year reports for distribution are formulated by the Assistant Director along with their class volunteers, Advancement staff leaders, and University officials.
9. The Assistant Director will be expected to do some after-hours event work (Homecoming and Reunion weekend) and occasional travel on behalf of the University.

Judgment Required Judgment and discretion as to the use of established policies are required to perform the essential duties of this position.
Budgetary Responsibility Monitors expenditures against budget; prepares budget data for review/approval by supervisor/department head.

Job Specifications/Position Qualifications (minimum)

Education

Bachelor’s degree required

Experience

2-4 years of direct experience and demonstrated success in fundraising or comparable combination of fundraising and other related experience.

Job Related Skills

Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, interpersonal, analytical, reasoning and problem solving skills.
