Primary Function

Works with the catering team to ensure smooth flows of plated and drop off events, through proper equipment selection and well thought timing, while using the University vehicles for transportation. Lead role in set up and break down of events. Assist in serving, preparation, and event planning. Responsible for vehicle upkeep and maintaining service records.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities

As directed by the Catering Manager:

Provide excellent customer service.

Oversee delivery of catered functions, in house and off site providing on-time service within set delivery time window, equipment delivery, food delivery, and clean up of events.

Lead Back of House organization during assigned events.

Be familiar with all current and upcoming event details.

Ensure that food is presented in an appealing manner throughout the service period and/or catered event.

Ensure that proper food preparation and handling techniques are being used by each employee.

Ensure that food s prepared in a balanced method, making sure that proper amounts of food are available without wasting food.

Ensure that all foods ae held at proper temperature, HACCP procedures are followed and recorded as required.

Monitor work safety, ensure employees are following safe work practices.

Ensure that all areas of the unit and/or event are kept clean and food contact surfaces are cleaned and sanitize, etc.

Ensure that all opening and closing checklists are completed. Participate in proper setup adn break down of events.

Follow the motor vehicle laws of the State of Tennessee, DOT, and OSHA.

Work in a team driven environment, take direction, offer direction, and assist with problem solving.

Speak with others using clear and professional language, and answer telephones using appropriate etiquette.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Judgment Required Judgment and discretion as to the use of established policies are required to perform the essential duties of this position.

Machines & Equipment Used

All equipment used in an institutional kitchen; both hands on when necessary and in a training situation.

Operating University vehicles.

Job Specifications/Position Qualifications (minimum)

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Vocational or specialized training may be required.

Experience

Minumum of one year of food service experience. Mimimum of two years of driving experience preferred.

Job Related Skills

Must be abl to pass the Motor Vehicle Check Requirements for University of the South
Posses a valid drivers license and proof of insurance
Posses a clean driving recod
Need to be able to work a flexible schedule.
Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time. Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance. Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs to should level.
Should posses in depth knowledge of Food and Beverage preparation and presentation.
Posses knowledge of tableware needed and independently gather and deliver.
Should contribute unique and creative ideas to enhance overall Guest Experience

Licenses/Certification

Servsafe Management Certification or acquire within 6 months of hire. Must have a valid Tennessee Drivers License.

This position will come in contact with students on occasion. This position often leads student workers.

This position will come in contact with multiple facets of internal customers within the University community.

External

This position will come in contact with multiple facets of external customers of the University, and its guests and visitors in a variety of operational settings.

Supervision Received This position receives general supervision. Broad instructions are provided and the staff member uses judgment and experience to carry out assignments. Completed assignments and finished products are reviewed by supervisor after completion.
