Primary Function

Responsible for facilitating cash, credit, debit and meal plan payment transactions through the Sewanee Dining cash register system. Responsible to greet and ensure that all people entering the dining operation are recorded as paying customers through the various forms of tender available. Ensures accurate accounting for shift deposits and cash drawer reconciliation.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities

1. Greet customers at the front and back entrances to McClurg Dining operation in a friendly and professional manner, and ensure that all customers have paid for entry via meal plan or other form of tender.
2. Help enforce that food and/or other property of Sewanee Dining is not removed from the premises.
3. Utilize CBORD / Micros Point of Sales system in accordance with department training, policies and procedures.
4. Prepare deposit slips and reconcile cash drawers with register tape reports, noting and/or explaining any discrepancies between revenue reports and actual cash on hand.
5. Act as department receptionist referring customers and visitors to the appropriate office or dining staff member as necessary.
6. Record accurate and complete information regarding students and employees with lost, damaged or otherwise missing ID Cards.
7. Keep person, entry and work station neat and professional looking offering a good first impression of the dining operation.

Judgment Required Judgment and discretion as to the use of established policies are required to perform the essential duties of this position.

Job Specifications/Position Qualifications (minimum)

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required and 1 year experience in a customer service intensive position

Experience

Previous experience as a cashier or related work requiring good math skills and confidence in addressing other in communications.

Job Related Skills

excellent interpersonal skills
Comfortable working with point of sale technology and related reconciliation accounting
Ability to pay excellent attention to detail required
Demonstrated ability to make change and perform other math intensive tasks.
